My mother did one thing extremely well, and that was CHRISTMAS when I was little..
She had the house exquisitely decorated with tons of white poinsettias, red poinsettias, candles, a Christmas tree filled with tasteful sparkling white lights, glittery garlands, even Waterford crystal ornaments, antique angel crowning the majestic noble fir on top.
The front winterscape on the house was so magical with glistening snow almost every year… white lights & beautiful crimson bows donning the wooden fence that bordered our property … the best part was the black sleigh we had (yes, we had a REAL black sleigh!) She would place HUGE shiny wrapped packages inside and floodlights were bouncing off the shiny presents from the snow..
There was a tradition we had where a string of elves hung on an emerald satin twisted cord from one of our fireplaces in the family room. 7 days before Christmas, the bottom elf (Sammy) would JUMP OFF the rope during the night. Wherever he stepped, there would be silver glitter.. on the carpet, floors, stairs, showing us his secret journey. There would be a tiny wrapped gift where the glitter path ended. This happened each night until Christmas morning. He’d be back on the rope in a slightly different position every morning.

She created magic for us at Christmas, and this was a wonderful way to open my eyes to the UNKNOWN, and what could be if we only close our eyes + IMAGINE.
I’ll never forget .. EVER.
